Palmanova is a distinctive star-shaped fortress town located in the northeastern part of Italy, in the Friuli Venezia Giulia region. Founded by the Republic of Venice in 1593, the town was designed as an ideal Renaissance city and military stronghold, featuring a geometric layout with concentric streets radiating from a central square, the Piazza Grande. The fortifications include nine bastions and three monumental gates, which were built to defend against invaders. Palmanova's unique urban design and historical significance have earned it a place on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
