Petersburg National Battlefield in Virginia, USA, preserves the site of the Siege of Petersburg, which lasted from June 1864 to April 1865 during the American Civil War. This prolonged campaign was critical in leading to the eventual surrender of Confederate General Robert E. Lee. The battlefield encompasses numerous historical sites, including trenches, fortifications, and battlefields spread over several units.
