Phanom Rung Historical Park in Buriram, Thailand, is an ancient Khmer temple complex set on the rim of an extinct volcano. Constructed between the 10th and 13th centuries, it showcases exemplary Khmer architecture and is dedicated to the Hindu god Shiva. The site features intricately carved lintels, doorways, and a long processional walkway leading to the main sanctuary. One of the most notable aspects of Phanom Rung is its perfectly aligned doorways, which allow the sun to shine through in a spectacular display during specific times of the year.
