Pucará de Tilcara is an ancient pre-Inca fortification located in the Quebrada de Humahuaca valley, near the town of Tilcara, Argentina. This archaeological site was built by the Omaguaca people around the 12th century and served as a strategic military and administrative center. The Pucará is perched on a hill, providing a commanding view of the surrounding valley, which was crucial for defense and surveillance. The site features numerous stone structures, including living quarters, storage rooms, and religious buildings. In addition to its historical significance, the Pucará de Tilcara offers insights into the daily lives, culture, and agricultural practices of the Omaguaca civilization.
