The Richat Structure, also known as the "Eye of the Sahara," is a prominent geological formation located near Ouadane, Mauritania. This circular feature, which spans approximately 40 kilometers in diameter, is characterized by concentric rings that resemble a bullseye when viewed from above. Initially thought to be an impact crater, the Richat Structure is now understood to be a deeply eroded geologic dome. Its unique appearance is the result of differential erosion of various rock layers, creating a striking pattern that has fascinated scientists and sparked numerous theories about its origin.
