About

Rievaulx Abbey, located near Helmsley in North Yorkshire, United Kingdom, is a former Cistercian monastery founded in 1132. Once one of the wealthiest and most powerful abbeys in England, it played a significant role in the religious and economic life of the region during the Middle Ages. The abbey was dissolved in 1538 during the Dissolution of the Monasteries under King Henry VIII, leading to its decline.
