The Scots Monastery in Regensburg, Germany, known as Schottenkloster, is a historic Benedictine abbey founded in the 11th century by Irish monks, hence the name "Scots" referring to the Irish. The monastery played a significant role in the religious and cultural life of medieval Regensburg. Its Romanesque church, dedicated to St. James, features intricate stone carvings and an elaborate portal known as the "Schottenportal," which is renowned for its detailed and symbolic reliefs. The monastery complex has undergone various transformations over the centuries and now serves different purposes, including housing parts of the University of Regensburg.
