The Semmering Railway in Austria is a pioneering mountain railway that was completed in 1854. It is recognized as one of the greatest feats of civil engineering from the early days of railway construction and is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The railway spans approximately 41 kilometers (25 miles) and connects Gloggnitz to Semmering, passing through challenging terrain that includes 14 tunnels, 16 viaducts, and over 100 curved stone bridges.
