The Senegambian stone circles are a group of megalithic sites located in The Gambia and Senegal. These stone circles, which include over 1,000 monuments and 29,000 stones, are believed to have been constructed between the third century B.C. and the sixteenth century A.D. The stones vary in height from one to two and a half meters and are typically arranged in a circular pattern. The most notable sites are Sine Ngayène and Wanar in Senegal, and Wassu and Kerbatch in The Gambia. These sites are thought to have served as burial grounds and are significant for their historical and cultural value.
