Smederevo Fortress is a significant historical landmark located in the town of Smederevo, Serbia. Constructed in the early 15th century, it stands as one of the largest medieval fortresses in Europe. Built by Despot Đurađ Branković, the fortress served as the capital of the Serbian Despotate during the turbulent period of Ottoman invasion. Its strategic position on the confluence of the Danube and Jezava rivers provided robust defense capabilities. The fortress is renowned for its massive stone walls, fortified towers, and intricate design, reflecting both military ingenuity and medieval architectural style.
