The Smolensk Kremlin in Smolensk, Russia, is a historic fortress that dates back to the late 16th century. Built between 1595 and 1602 under the reign of Tsar Feodor I and designed by the architect Fyodor Kon, the Kremlin was intended to protect the western borders of the Russian state. The structure originally featured 38 towers and thick defensive walls stretching over 6.5 kilometers, although only a portion of these have survived to the present day. The Smolensk Kremlin is notable for its impressive architecture and has played a significant role in various historical conflicts, including the Time of Troubles and the Napoleonic Wars.
