Somapura Mahavihara, located in Naogaon, Bangladesh, is one of the most significant archaeological sites in South Asia. This ancient Buddhist monastery, dating back to the 8th century, was built by the Pala dynasty king Dharmapala. It is renowned for its unique architectural design, featuring a grand central shrine surrounded by 177 cells for monks, extensive terracotta decorations, and intricate stone carvings. The site reflects the rich cultural and religious heritage of the region and has been recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site for its historical and architectural significance.
