It is one of the most renowned architectural landmarks in the city and a symbol of Kazan's rich cultural heritage. The tower stands within the Kazan Kremlin, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Its origin is shrouded in legends, with some attributing it to the Tatar queen Söyembikä, while others suggest it was built much later, during the 17th or early 18th century.
