St. Peter's Square in Rome, Italy, is an iconic and grandiose plaza located directly in front of St. Peter's Basilica in Vatican City. Designed by the renowned architect Gian Lorenzo Bernini in the 17th century, the square is an architectural marvel with its expansive elliptical shape, flanked by two semicircular colonnades formed by 284 Doric columns and 88 pilasters. At the center of the square stands a towering Egyptian obelisk, which dates back to 1586 and was brought to Rome by Emperor Caligula. The square is a significant site for Catholic pilgrims and tourists alike, serving as a gathering place for papal ceremonies and public audiences.
