Sunset Crater is a cinder cone volcano located in northern Arizona, USA, and is part of the San Francisco Volcanic Field. It formed roughly around 1085 AD during a dramatic eruption that significantly impacted the local landscape and ecosystems. The cone itself rises about 1,000 feet above the surrounding terrain and is characterized by its vibrant, colorful rim, which gives it the name "Sunset" Crater.
