Takalik Abaj is an ancient Mesoamerican archaeological site located in the Pacific lowlands of Guatemala. It was a significant center of both the Olmec and Maya civilizations, showcasing a blend of cultural influences from these two important cultures. The site features an array of monumental sculptures, altars, and stelae, as well as remnants of sophisticated urban planning including plazas and residential areas. Takalik Abaj is particularly noted for its early use of hieroglyphic writing and its role in the development of the Maya calendar.
