The Temple of Olympian Zeus in Athens, Greece, is a grandiose structure dedicated to Zeus, the king of the Olympian gods. Construction of the temple began in the 6th century BCE during the rule of the Athenian tyrants, but it wasn't completed until the reign of the Roman Emperor Hadrian in the 2nd century CE, over 600 years later. The temple was once one of the largest in the ancient world, featuring a colossal double colonnade with 104 Corinthian columns, each standing 17 meters high. Today, only 15 of these columns remain standing, with one lying on the ground where it fell during a storm in the 19th century.
