Tikal, located in the dense jungles of northern Guatemala, is one of the most significant archaeological sites of the ancient Maya civilization. This UNESCO World Heritage Site was once a bustling metropolis, flourishing between the 6th century BC and the 10th century AD. Tikal is renowned for its impressive ruins, including towering pyramids, grand plazas, and sophisticated palaces. The Temple of the Great Jaguar, or Temple I, and the Temple of the Masks, or Temple II, are among its most iconic structures. The city also features a complex network of causeways, reservoirs, and ceremonial platforms, reflecting the advanced engineering and architectural skills of the Maya.
