The village of Vaitogi in American Samoa is renowned for the legend of the Turtle and Shark. This captivating tale tells of a blind woman and her granddaughter who, facing hardship, leapt into the sea and transformed into a turtle and a shark. Today, this story is celebrated by villagers who claim that the spirits of the turtle and shark can still be summoned through songs and chants, often appearing in the waters near Vaitogi.
