Uaxactun is an ancient Maya archaeological site located in the Petén Basin region of Guatemala. It is one of the oldest known Maya cities, with evidence of continuous occupation from the Preclassic period through to the Late Classic period. The site is renowned for its impressive architecture, including temples, pyramids, and an astronomical observatory used for tracking celestial events. Uaxactun also played a significant role in the development of the Maya calendar system.
