Vadakkunnathan Temple is a historic Hindu temple located in the city of Thrissur in the southern Indian state of Kerala. Dedicated to Lord Shiva, the temple is renowned for its classic Kerala-style architecture and is one of the oldest temples in the state, believed to have been built by Parashurama, the sixth avatar of Vishnu. The temple complex covers an area of approximately 9 acres and houses several intricate murals, some of which date back to the 17th century. The temple is a significant cultural and spiritual center and is also famous for being the starting point of the Thrissur Pooram festival, one of the largest and most vibrant temple festivals in Kerala.
