Vieques is a small island located off the eastern coast of mainland Puerto Rico, known for its stunning beaches, bioluminescent bay, and rich history. The island is part of the Puerto Rican archipelago and spans approximately 21 miles long by 4 miles wide. It was used by the U.S. Navy for military exercises until 2003, and much of the land has since been designated as a wildlife refuge. Visitors to Vieques can explore its pristine natural landscapes, including Playa Caracas, Playa Negra, and Mosquito Bay, which is famous for its glowing waters caused by bioluminescent microorganisms.
