Wat Phra Yai, also known as the Big Buddha Temple, is one of Koh Samui's most famous landmarks. Located on a small rocky island off the northeastern corner of Koh Samui, it features a massive 12-meter tall golden Buddha statue that can be seen from several kilometers away. The temple was built in 1972 and has since become a popular tourist attraction and a significant religious site for locals. Visitors can climb a staircase adorned with dragon designs to reach the statue and enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding area.
