The West Virginia Penitentiary in Moundsville, West Virginia, is a retired prison that operated from 1876 to 1995. Known for its Gothic architecture, the prison was notorious for its harsh conditions and violent history. At its peak, it housed some of the most dangerous criminals and was the site of numerous riots, escapes, and executions.
