The White House, located at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW in Washington, D.C., is the official residence and workplace of the President of the United States. It has been the residence of every U.S. president since John Adams in 1800. Designed by Irish-born architect James Hoban, the neoclassical building features iconic white-painted Aquia Creek sandstone and has been a symbol of the U.S. government for over two centuries. The White House complex includes the Executive Residence, the West Wing, the East Wing, and the Eisenhower Executive Office Building, which houses the offices of the President's staff.
