Yaxha is an ancient Maya city located in the northeastern region of Guatemala, within the Petén Basin. The site is situated near the shores of Lake Yaxha and is part of the Yaxha-Nakum-Naranjo National Park. Yaxha was a significant urban center during the Classic Period of Maya civilization, flourishing between 250 and 950 AD. The city features impressive architectural structures, including temples, pyramids, and residential complexes. One of its most notable features is the presence of twin-pyramid complexes, similar to those found in Tikal, another prominent Maya site. Yaxha is also known for its well-preserved stelae and altars, which provide valuable insights into the political and ceremonial life of the ancient Maya.
