Best time to visit Costa Rica:

High Season (Dry Season):

  • December to April: This period is the dry season and considered the best time to visit most parts of Costa Rica. The weather is generally sunny, and rainfall is minimal. It's an excellent time for outdoor activities, beach vacations, and exploring national parks. However, this is the peak tourist season, so expect higher prices and more crowds.
Green Season (Wet Season):
  • May to November: The green season in Costa Rica brings more rain, but it also offers lush landscapes, lower prices, and fewer tourists. The rainforest comes alive during this time, and you can enjoy activities like white-water rafting and bird-watching. The Caribbean coast experiences its dry season from September to October.

September and October (Rainy Season/Peak of Hurricane Season):

  • These are the rainiest months in Costa Rica, especially on the Pacific coast. While some areas may experience heavy rainfall, others remain relatively dry. Traveling during this period requires careful planning and monitoring of local weather conditions.

Shoulder Seasons:

  • The transition months of November and May can be excellent times to visit. You might experience a mix of dry and wet weather, but you can benefit from lower prices and fewer tourists.

Specific Interests:

  • If you're interested in seeing sea turtles nesting, visit the Tortuguero National Park on the Caribbean coast between March and October. For bird-watching, Monteverde and other cloud forests are best visited during the dry season.
