Herrenchiemsee is a grand palace situated on Herreninsel, the largest island in the Chiemsee lake in Bavaria, Germany. Commissioned by King Ludwig II of Bavaria, the palace was intended to be a tribute to the French Sun King, Louis XIV, mirroring the opulence of the Palace of Versailles. Construction began in 1878 but was never fully completed due to the king's mysterious death in 1886.
