Fort Louis, located in Marigot, Saint Martin, is a historic fortress that dates back to the late 18th century. It was originally constructed in 1789 by order of Jean Sebastien de Durat, the governor of Saint Martin at the time, to protect the harbor warehouses where goods such as salt, coffee, sugar cane, and rum were stored. Perched on a hill above Marigot Bay, the fort offers panoramic views of the surrounding area, including the town of Marigot, the coastline, and the neighboring island of Anguilla.
