The Yi Peng festival, also known as the Lantern Festival, is a breathtakingly beautiful celebration held annually in northern Thailand, particularly in the city of Chiang Mai. During this enchanting event, thousands of intricately crafted paper lanterns, called khom loi, are released into the night sky, creating a mesmerizing display of light and color. The festival is deeply rooted in Thai tradition and is often held in conjunction with the Loi Krathong festival, symbolizing the floating away of negativity and welcoming new beginnings. Beyond its visual spectacle, Yi Peng is a spiritual experience, with locals and visitors alike participating in ceremonies, making wishes, and offering prayers.
