Caracol is a large ancient Maya archaeological site located in the Cayo District of Belize. It is one of the most important and significant Maya cities, known for its impressive structures, including the Caana or "Sky Palace," which remains the tallest man-made structure in Belize. The site was discovered in 1937 and has since provided valuable insights into Maya civilization, including its architecture, hieroglyphics, and social organization. Caracol thrived during the Classic Period, with an estimated peak population of around 150,000 people.
